Glentress is one of the world class 7stanes mountain bike venues. It features a wide range of trails for beginners and experts alike.

All MTB network trails

All network trails are accessed by following the shared Multi-user Trail first, which is marked with a brown line on the map.

Bike trails maintenance

Tree felling operations are ongoing at Glentress with some trail closures on the Red/Black Mountain Bike Routes.
During 2026 we’ll be continuing maintenance/rebuild work on the bike trails. Trails will mostly stay open with brief delays passing through work areas but some closures will be needed at times. Please follow all safety signage and instructions from the trail crews.

Lower Green Route

An excellent introduction to mountain biking. The route heads out on the Multi-user Trail into the forest before passing through some of Glentress’s oldest, tallest and most magnificent trees. After The Admiral, return to the Glentress Gateway on the Multi-user Trail then Apple Peel to finish.

The Lower Green Route is open but will close on Saturday 30 May for the Glentress 7 event.

Glentress Blue Route (diverted)

The Blue Route is big fun for all – from novices taking the next step up from green routes to experienced riders. This route can be split into various loops.

Start at the trailhead at Glentress Gateway and climb as far as the Buzzard’s Nest. Then either descend the bottom loop or continue to include the upper loop too. So many highlights, including Berm Baby Berm, Blue Velvet and Good Game. Add on the new descents – Harry’s Blue and Turn and Burn – for a thrilling flow trail finish. If you’ve got a mixed ability party, this is a great choice for the whole team.

Saturday 30 May: a shorter version of the Blue Route will be available due to the Glentress 7 event, accessible from the trailhead via the forest road towards Go Ape.

Sections open (linked with diversions) will be: Dougie Bank Climb, Blue Velvet, Berm Baby Berm, Electric Blue, Falla Brae and Good Game.

At other times, the route is open with diversions:

Short diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10 to post 11).
Harry's Blue is back open 7 days a week. On road to it, please stop and wait for signal from banksperson/operator before passing any heavy machinery. Thank you.

Open with one short diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10 to post 11).
Harry's Blue is closed Monday to Friday due to tree felling operations along forest road to Harry's Blue. Finish date to be confirmed.

Glentress Red Route (diverted)

This world famous route is for experienced riders and it's sure to put a huge grin on your face. It has everything - big climbs, fabulous views, fast flowing descents and a fantastic blend of trail styles.

There are various options to finish: choose The Pie Run (shortcut) or Matrix and Lombard Street for the classic, more natural feeling Red Route return via Magic Mushroom and Falla Brae. Or choose Twitcher and Smells Like Tweed Spirit for an incredible bike park style flow trail finale.

At other times, the route is mostly open with some closures/diversions:

Diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10) rejoining at the exit of Cool Runnings (post 12).
Matrix and Lombard Street closed 7 days a week due to tree felling operations with diversion from post 45 via Pie Run and Mushroom Pie to Magic Mushroom. Until end of June 2026.
Twitcher is closed Monday to Friday due to tree felling operations along road to start of trail until the end of June 2026. Note: Harry's Blue is back open as an option to access Smells Like Tweed Spirit.
The final part of Smells Like Tweed Spirit is currently closed for maintenance/rebuild work (7 days a week) with a diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn.

Grade - Red: Difficult
11 ¼ miles / 18.0 km

Glentress Black Route (diverted)

A long, technical ride for expert riders that takes you into the wilds of Glentress with epic climbs and thrilling descents. Return via the more natural Double X, Head Over Heels and Wormhole trails to link up with the end of the classic Red Route or via Twitcher and Castle Black for a thrilling, full on bike park style flow trail finish.

Saturday 30 May: a shorter again version of the Black Route will be available due to the Glentress 7 event, accessible from the trailhead via forest road towards Go Ape. Sections open (linked with diversions) will be: Dougie Bank Climb, Soor Plooms, Goat Track, Tower Ride, Mustard Snake, Carls Lane, Spookywood Descent, Mud and Roots then diversion onto the Blue Route to return.

At other times, the route is partially open with some closures/diversions:

Diversion at the exit of Cardie Hill Climb (post 10) via forest road, climb up old Pennels Vennel trail and Blue Velvet ending at Soor Plooms entry.
Boundary Trail, Deliverance, Mild Peril and Redemption Climb remain closed due to storm damage and due to leading into a live felling area. Diversion at post 73 via Carls Lane, Spookywood, Mud & Roots and Hit Squad Hill.
Ewok Village, Double X and Head Over Heels closed 7 days a week due to tree felling operations until the end of June 2026. Diversion from post 45 as per Red Route.
The final part of Castle Black is currently closed (7 days a week) for rebuild/maintenance work with diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn.

Grade - Black: Severe

Glentress Skills Area

Saturday 30 May: the Skills Area will be open during the Glentress 7 event, accessible via the trail behind the Gateway Building (as an out and back).

Taster Trails

Develop your skills on our Taster Trails before heading out on the main mountain bike routes. There are Blue (Moderate) Red (Difficult) and Black (Severe) graded Taster Trails. You can find them at the far end of the Multi-user Trail loop, to the east of the Gateway building.

Saturday 30 May: all Taster Trails will be closed for the Glentress 7 event.
Some sections of the Red and Black Taster Trails and Flow trails will be closed at times during 2026 for maintenance/rebuild work. Currently Castle Black lower and the final part of Smells Like Tweed Spirit are closed (7 days a week) with a diversion via the final part of Turn and Burn. Please follow onsite signage and instructions from maintenance team.
